Just before Christmas we celebrated Layla’s sixth birthday. She was looking forward to having a friends party this year (we alternate every year) so she decided on a Mermaid theme. Here are a few photo’s from Layla’s special day!
I created the invitations and printed them onto thick card.
The cake is butter cake recipe and to decorate I used fondant icing.
Decorations / Bunting
Fish & Chips! We oven baked fish & chips and served them wrapped in butchers paper just like take away fish and chips – the kids loved it!
The Dessert Table
Chocolate Dipped Pretzels
Fruit Salad Buckets
Beach Side Jelly Cups
Party Games & Activities
Hanging over each chair was a mermaid tail for each guest to wear (made by a clever friend!) Each child then decorated their own jewellery box with glitter glue and lots of sparkly gems and stones. While the boxes were drying they moved outside and had to find treasure in the clam sandpit. Where hidden in the sand was bracelets, necklaces, rings, tiaras and pirate eye patches.
We played the simple party games – pass the parcel, musical bobs, musical statues & musical chairs.
Each child went home with a collection of goodies – jewellery boxes, jewellery, game prizes, a bag of lollies from the dessert table and a starfish wand. I made the wands using wooden dowel, star fish, string of pearls and ribbon. I used a hot glue gun to put them together.
Happy Birthday my beautiful Layla!
